Every time this song came on the radio, I would cry out to God in my distress. Just like the Psalmist and every preacher and Sunday school teacher and worship song had taught me to do. And God did not answer.
I'm not convinced that people are "leaving x for y." But I do think that what we are doing right now isn't connecting with some people.
Is there a chip on the collective shoulders of the people who helped start these contemporary services? If I'm totally honest: probably! But it's not a chip we put there. And if you want to help us unload that chip, maybe some grace would go further than another lecture about what we're doing wrong?
